Ilford Photo and Calumet Photographic are sponsoring Silver, a black-and-white photography conference, at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif., Mar. 3-5. The conference will include a photo competition and a commemorative book, along with informal discussions and related events. Featured speakers include Keith Carter, George DeWolfe, Jeff Dunas, Les McLean, Alan Ross, John Sexton and Mary Virginia Swanson.

FotoFest International has scheduled its 11th International Biennial of Photography and Photo-related Art for Mar. 10-Apr. 23
in Houston. This year’s theme is “The Earth: Artists Responding to Violence.” The citywide event will feature more than 120 exhibitions of photographic artworks throughout Houston.

The launch party for the Images for Conservation Fund’s 2006 Pro-Tour of Nature Photography will take place Mar. 18 at Gallagher Headquarters, an historic Texas ranch 23 miles northwest of San Antonio. The Pro-Tour matches 20 Hill Country landowners with 20 nature photographers for a month-long competition focusing on wildlife conservation. The American Society of Picture Professionals has scheduled its Fourth Educational Conference Mar. 23-26 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in San Francisco. The Society for Photographic Education’s 43rd National Conference will take place Mar. 23-26 at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers in Chicago. The 10th annual Doublexposure photography auction to benefit Youth in Focus will take place Apr. 28 at the Consolidated Works Gallery, 500 Boren Ave. N., Seattle. Contests/Scholarships

The Environmental Photography Invitational is a juried photo competition designed to promote environmental awareness. In addition to receiving cash awards, selected photographs will be included in an online exhibit, a six-week gallery show and the Summer 2006 issue of PhotoMedia. Photographer and EPI creator Art Wolfe will host the print exhibit in his Seattle gallery.
The event is open to photographers residing in Alaska, Arizona, British Columbia, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. The entry deadline is Mar. 14. More information and entry guidelines are available at www.epinvitational.com.

The Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University is accepting submissions for its third 25 Under 25 competition. Every five years, CDS publishes a collection of work showcasing the talent of 25 promising photographers aged 25 or younger. The deadline for the competition is Apr. 28. The Nikon International Small World Competition showcases photomicrographers from an array of scientific disciplines. The competition is open to anyone with an interest in photography through the microscope. The subject matter is unrestricted, and any type of light microscopy technique is acceptable. The American Society of Media Photographers Foundation, the charitable arm of the ASMP, awards grants for educational programs in photography twice a year. The application deadlines for 2006 are May 15 and Nov. 15. Application information and forms are available online at www.asmp.org/foundation.

The deadline for submissions to the 2006 International Photography Awards is May 31. First-, second- and third-place images, in both the professional and nonprofessional categories, will be showcased in the book, “The Annual International Photography Awards.” Although entrants may submit as many photographs as they like, each must be accompanied by a submission form.
