PhotoMedia Magazine: For Your Information

Now in its nineteenth year, PhotoMedia magazine targets serious creators and users of photography. It is intended to educate and inspire readers on all aspects of photography (including digital), with each issue concentrating on a different theme.

It is the only publication of its sort in the entire United States — a regional magazine (concentrating on all states west of the Rocky Mountains except Hawaii, as well as greater Vancouver, B.C.) with broad photography industry coverage, that is distributed free to readers at strategic locations throughout the region (including photo specialty shops and labs, colleges with photo programs, etc.). Paid subscriptions are also available for those preferring delivery by mail.

PhotoMedia magazine is published three times per year (Fall, Spring and Summer, approx. 23,000 copies per issue) and is printed on a heat-set web press on 4-color-capable high-gloss paper throughout. Its 10" x 13-1/8" trim size affords a larger-than-average format to present photographs and graphics with high impact in a very reader-friendly open design and careful attention to not crowding advertising or stories.

Our editorial encourages readers to consider new products, services, techniques and opportunities while our comprehensive news coverage keeps them in touch with what’s going on in the industry. The editorial includes features about foremost photographers and their work, industry trends, special locations to photograph, industry news, people, technical features and new product reports, and a calendar listing of photo happenings throughout the region. A strong emphasis is placed on the photos throughout the magazine.

After looking over an issue of PhotoMedia, we are confident the reader will be amazed that it is a free publication (and has been throughout its history) and impressed with its absorbing editorial and visual content. It is supported almost entirely from advertiser revenue.

PhotoMedia has been honored with prestigious awards for publishing excellence including fve Apex Grand Awards in 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 in the overall Magapaper/Newspaper, four+ color, small office, for profit category; and three first-place Maggie Awards — Best Interview or Profile/Trade in 2000, Best Cover/Trade in 2003 and Best Overall Tabloid/Trade in 2004.

Since 2000, PhotoMedia has been nominated for a total of twelve Maggie Awards (with at least one nomination per year — categories other than the three wins above have included Best Overall Design/Trade and Best How-To Article/Trade) and has also received six Apex Awards of Excellence in addition to the five aforementioned Grand Awards (with at least one or the other per year — other categories have included Overall Design/Trade, Personality Profiles/Trade and Photo Usage/Trade).
