The Earth Day Invitation Exhibition (a part of this year’s Earth Day festivities) continues at the Odyssey Maritime Discovery Center on Pier 66 on the Seattle waterfront through May 27. The exhibit features the work of over 40 Northwest photographers whose work was selected from the annual E.D.I.E. competition. A selection of prints from the exhibition continues on display in the concourse of the Rainier Center in downtown Seattle at 5th Ave. and University St. through May 14. The Friends of Photography Benefit Auction 2000, historically one of the best-attended charity events of its kind, will take place this year in San Francisco at the Forum, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Catalogs of the approximately 150 contemporary and vintage images to be sold—including works by Ansel Adams, Bill Jacobson and William Wegman—will be made available in May; a preview of the items will take place June 1-3, and the auction itself will begin with a preview reception at 5pm on June 3. The Photo Council. The newly formed Photo Council, made up of five Portland galleries (Photographic Image Gallery, Lawrence Photographics, Blue Sky Gallery, S. K. Josefsberg and Portland Art Museum), will kick off a monthly symposium on collecting and appreciating photography. Imaging USA, PPA’s newly named annual convention, will convene at the Las Vegas Convention Center on July 28 – Aug. 2. This year’s edition features more than 100 programs, "themed" education days, the all-new Studio of the Future and a 400+ booth trade show.

Camera Canada College will offer a combination of workshops, trade and print exhibitions, print and slide competitions and a series of keynote presentations as part of its Aug. 4-6 event at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Photo Americas 2000 will see Portland join several other international cities in a celebration of photography through festival. Portland’s Month of Photography. Over 70 galleries in Portland will show photography Oct. 5-28 as part of Portland’s first annual Month of Photography. Kodak/Hasselblad Open-International Photo Challenge 2000 celebrates the role photography has played in our past and will continue to play in our future. The contest is open to amateur and professional photographers worldwide. Based on the theme Unphotographed Millennium Moments, Past and Future, entrants are asked to create or recreate moments in time from the year 1000 A.D. to 3000 A.D.
