Photographer: Karin Corea-Laurel, Woodinville, Washington
Image Title: Ko Win Kyaw Zan Prays at Andawthein Shrine
Category: Indigenous Cultures

Technical Details: Leica M6, Noctilux 50mm lens, Fuji Provia film, 1/30 second at f/1.0
Location: Andawthein Shrine in Mrauk U, Myanmar (Burma)
Description: I was struck by the gentleness of this quiet ritual. I loved how the candlelight was diffused by the pungent incense smoke hanging in the air, highlighting the stone Buddha and carvings inside the ancient shrine.

A former freelance press photographer, Karin Corea-Laurel now prefers travel and adventure photography. She and her family spent nearly a year driving around the world in a Land Rover from London to Bombay. "I especially love to visit remote tribal villages where western influences have had minimal impact on indigenous culture. I would like to inspire others to travel and learn about cultures outside our somewhat isolated continent."
