Description: In a dashing display of horsemanship, a charro, or Mexican cowboy, gallops on his mount and at the last minute pulls back on the reins. I wanted to freeze the horse's expression at this dramatic moment, with the dust rising from underneath the animal. For the best visual impact I chose to photograph head-on, from the stands. As I watched through the lens, I noticed that the horse's neck and face were exactly in line with the rider, creating the humorous illusion of man and horse becoming one creature. This was the perfect opportunity to capture the moment and make the statement. Charros are excellent riders who pride themselves on their control over their horse…so by portraying the horse and rider as 'inseparable' it reinforces the theme of man and animal in unison.
