Image Title: Votive Offering
Category: Indigenous Cultures

Technical Details: Canon EOS-1n, 28mm lens, Kodak Tri-X film
Location: Varanasi, India
Description: Varanasi is on the bank of the sacred Ganges River, and is one of the holiest places in India. Hindu pilgrims come to bathe in the water, a ritual that washes away the sins of the bather. It's a magical city where the most intimate rituals of life take place in public. This makes the ancient religious traditions accessible. To me, this woman embodies the intimacy of this religious experience.
