Description: Just prior to a torrential afternoon thundershower, I was able to shoot just four photos of this magnificent flower. First drawn to the rich color and texture, the water lily's central glow became a metaphor for the Buddhist tradition of meditation and compassion.

As a freelance photographer, the chameleon nature of Pacific Northwest light has me frequently reaching for the camera. Looking through the lens helps direct my attention to the timeless and uncontained beauty of the world. Focusing on color and textures invites exploration into the inner world of flowers, plants, faces, windows, and then unfolds upon the greater domain of people, cultures and landscapes. But it's the play of light, in the mountains or in the garden, which can transform any scene.

Travels have led into the wilderness areas of the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, Minnesota and Montana; Europe; Egypt; India; Nepal; Thailand; Malaysia; and Australia. Publications include Nature's Best and British Heritage magazines. Gallery shows include The Blue Heron Gallery (running concurrently with this show); Café Luna; and Bailey Boushay House.
