Description: I'd been captivated by this banner since arriving in town and I knew I had to create an image incorporating it. I picked a strategic viewpoint (OK, I went onto the roof of my hotel) many times in different light and found the best vantage and waited for the "decisive moment." I was struck by the changes India had undergone since my last visit. Just a few years earlier, it'd been a major challenge just to make an international call in a major city; now the Internet had shown it wasn't such a lonely planet after all.

Since leaving England where he (mis)spent his youth, Lawrence has lived in Washington, Florida, Hawaii, Yellowstone National Park and the Bay Area as well as Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara, California. His meandering ways have taken him around the world, traveling extensively in Asia, Europe, North America, and to the four corners of Africa. His degree from the University of California in Environmental Studies was of little use during two armed holdups (in London and Trinidad) but probably had some value while being stalked by a hyena and while in the midst of a hippo stampede in Kenya.

Lawrence Worcester's photo credits include: National Geographic,
Traveler, NationalGeographic.com, BBC Wildlife, Popular Photography, American Photo, Petersen's Photographic, Mountain Travel-Sobek, Abercrombie & Kent, National Wildlife, Islands magazine, Gourmet magazine, Nature Conservancy, Honolulu magazine, Canon Calendars, Hässelblad Super Circuit, and Lonely Planet.

Lawrence also has exhibited his work in two shows at the Benham Art Gallery in Seattle, as well as at the International Travel Show in London, and in a United Nations traveling gallery exhibition. He was principle photographer for the Honolulu Symphony when he lived in Hawaii. Rhythm Magazine assigned him every year to cover WOMAD USA. He was awarded the Grand Prizes in recent Asian Geographic, Popular Photography's Brilliant Landscape and Onetravel.com's photo competitions. Last year he was named STA Travel Photographer of the Year and won the Unique Photo of the Year.

Lawrence is currently represented by Lonely Planet Images and is working on a book on Buddhism.
