The scene typifies for me the life and landscape of the African plain, where giraffe and herds of wildebeest are common. What makes this image so special is the light - the shadow across the trees and wildebeest in the background, while the giraffe and wildebeest in the foreground are in the sun.     Charles Sleicher began a serious interest in photography when he retired from the University of Washington in 1991.
