Photographer: Guy C. Crilly, Wenatchee, Washington
Image Title: Reflections in a Hoot Owl's Eye
Category: Wildlife

Technical Details: Canon 35mm SLR camera along with a manual-focus FD lens, Fuji 100 color print film, at f/2.8 and 1/500 second
Location: Bitterroot Valley, Montana
Description: A lot of photography involves what we see or what the camera captures on film, but often the goal is to put ourselves into the picture and see what our subject matter sees. This photo does that by letting the owl's eye act as a lens and capturing on the surface of the cornea the inverted scenic landscape. In this case, it is a row of Douglas fir trees whose jagged tree line adds both depth and dynamism to the resulting photograph.

Guy is an advanced amateur photographer who is entirely self-taught. He has won numerous juried competitions and presented his work as one-man shows, and his work can be found in private collections.

He enjoys taking photos and sharing with others, particularly with those who are homebound, how he got a particular shot. As with most things in life, Guy finds that he is not re-inventing the wheel with photography but rather adding to the collective body of knowledge already out there. In order to do this, Guy actively participates in photography contests and photography clubs (www.wenatcheephotographyclub.org and www.nppnw.org), and by showing his photography.

Guy often uses his photography as inspiration to create unique cards, including special occasion "Callie Cards."
