Description: This cub is one of a set of twins born to
Dolly, a long-time inhabitant of the McNeil River State Game
Sanctuary. A few minutes before I took this photo, this cub wandered
a little too far from her mother and was briefly threatened by
a large male grizzly before her mom let the male know that was
a really bad idea. For the next hour or so the cub clung to her
mother wherever she went, and for a brief minute the sun came
out as the cub enjoyed the ultimate safety of mom's back.

- In our world, nothing remains
static everything that exists is in a constant state of change.
While change that occurs over longer periods of time is seen
as natural, we're now experiencing change that is vastly accelerated
and transmuted from normal ecological processes. The rate and
scale of human-caused environmental degradation on our planet
is staggering, and with each passing day we lose more of our
wild places, wildlife, vital cultures and reminders of our past.
-
- My photographs are attempts
to catch real moments in our real world, before we blink our
eyes and what we've seen is gone. To help heal our world, we
must be reminded of its wonders and mysteries. My mentor, Minor
White once said, "Sometimes and somewhere in a life, a very
special gift of an image is given." I am fortunate to have
been in places that are still changing slowly and to have been
given images that speak of the beauty and transience of life.
